Weight Loss Procedures: Everything You Need to Know

Weight loss procedures are on the rise. A quick Google search for "weight loss surgery" will return over 16 million results! With so many options available, it can be difficult to figure out which procedure is right for you. In this blog post, we will discuss the most common weight loss procedures and provide you with everything you need to know before making a decision.

Weight loss procedures can be broadly classified into two categories: surgical and non-surgical. Surgical procedures involve making incisions in the body and often require a hospital stay. Non-surgical procedures are typically less invasive and can be done on an outpatient basis.

The most common weight loss surgery procedure is gastric bypass surgery. This surgery is usually performed on patients who are significantly overweight or obese. Gastric bypass surgery works by creating a small stomach pouch that limits the amount of food you can eat. The surgery also reroutes the small intestine so that food bypasses a large portion of the stomach and intestines. This results in weight loss by both limiting the amount of food you can eat and reducing the absorption of calories.

Other weight loss surgery procedures include gastric sleeve surgery and duodenal switch surgery. Gastric sleeve surgery involves removing a large portion of the stomach, leaving a small "sleeve" of stomach remaining. Duodenal switch surgery is similar to gastric bypass surgery but also involves rerouting the small intestine.

Weight loss procedures can also be non-surgical. The most common non-surgical weight loss procedure is gastric balloon surgery. This procedure involves placing a balloon in the stomach that is then filled with saline solution. The balloon takes up space in the stomach, leading to weight loss by reducing the amount of food you can eat. Gastric balloon surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis and does not require a hospital stay.
